If you don’t have a group of girlfriends to daydream with, you need to put out an ad for one ASAP. I have a group of girls who make me feel like anything is possible. When the four of us are together, the sky is the limit. I like to think of us as a little group of rebels or misfits. We like to push the envelope and challenge standards that are put in front of us. When our schedules align, we have “dream sessions” over dinner (and sometimes over a weekend cruise!) in which we brainstorm how our dreams can become our reality. There is never enough time when we are together to talk about what we want out of life and how we are going to get there. Thank you E, A, and L for encouraging me and supporting me no matter where my imagination takes me!

Our most recent dream session was at Barcelona Atlanta Wine Bar & Restaurant. Open since October of 2011, this trendy restaurant located in Inman Park offers customers a taste of Spain. I spent several days in the real Barcelona, Spain last summer eating paella and drinking sangria like it was going out of style and I have to say – Barcelona Atlanta comes pretty close to the real deal. We sat in their tapas lounge inside but they also offer al fresco dining on their wrap-around patio. The interior held a warm industrial ambiance with plenty of wood and urban accents – fits right in with the contemporary Inman Park.

I immediately flocked to the traditional dishes I enjoyed last summer but the four of us ordered enough to feed an army and I didn’t taste anything I didn’t love. Check out the menu here.

They had a pretty extensive wine menu and the waiters were happy to help us navigate. I opted for the sangria and was not disappointed!

We were practically lusting over the entire menu so we ordered way more than we could handle. I will say these are true tapas – definitely not enough for a meal unless you order a few. My favorites included Patatas Bravas – potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce drizzled with garlic aioli and Gambas al Ajillo – shrimp sautéed in garlic, sherry, and hot pepper.

You simply can’t go to a restaurant named Barcelona without ordering paella, am I right?! Emily and I split an order of the Mariscos Paella and this was the stuff dreams are made of. It was a traditional seafood paella with prawns, squid, mussels and clams. To say this dish was big enough for two would be the understatement of the century. I believe it was big enough for the entire Kardashian fam – Scott, Kanye, and baby North included. Amazing.

Honorable mentions definitely include the Croquettes and Buttered Chickpea Puree. I only got a taste of these but they were incredible.

I can’t think of a better spot to let my imagination get the best of me. Because jumping the pond every year isn’t feasible, this summer you can find me dining on the patio outside Barcelona Atlanta daydreaming I’m back in Spain drinking sangria and enjoying a meal on the famous Las Ramblas.

Fellow Atlantans, what other great restaurants are out there that we need to experience? Pay it forward and share!
